Lithium batteries


We install lithium battery systems in caravans, motorhomes, houseboats and off-grid house systems.  

We use Winston Thundersky cells™

At T1 Lithium we build our batteries using individual Winston Thundersky™ LiFePO4 cells.  Each of these cells is 3.2V and we pack them in parallel and then in series to give an even flow of charge into and out of the whole battery.

The Winston Thundersky cells are prismatic cells.  Electric vehicles use cylindrical cells which are better suited to a high current draw.

We connect individual lithium batteries in series

We don't prebuild a whole lot of batteries of one size and then connect them together in parallel.  

This doesn't work well with lead acid batteries unless the cables between each battery are the same length.  But in a lithium system, where the resistance in each cell is much, much lower than in a lead acid battery, a set of batteries in parallel is a problem waiting to happen.  Unless your cable lengths are exactly the same and your battery terminals are spotlessly clean, each cell has exactly the same resistance and each battery has exactly the same voltage, one battery will always do all the work until one day it dies.

We build a complete battery of the size you want

We stock four sizes of cells so that we can offer a variety of power options and sizes of battery to suit an available space.  

It's also preferable to use a certain number of cells to build a battery, so that any differences in internal resistance and capacity that are inherent in mass production, are evened out over sufficient cells to minimise and cancel these differences,.

For this reason, we would build a 200Ah battery out of 8 x 100Ah cells, rather than 4 x 200Ah cells.

This gives our customers a range of power options, but also a range of sizes, as each capacity of cell varies in height and width, as shown in the table below.

Our most popular capacity for RVs is 400Ah.  Depending on how much solar you have and the age of your air conditioner, you can expect to be able to run your air conditioner on this amount of lithium, provided you have an inverter that will deliver the required load.
